Description
Lochmaben in Dumfries and Galloway reflects broken castle walls and a distant church spire in still water, with bare branches framing pale hills beneath softly lit spring clouds.
The castle associated with this small Scottish town played a contested role in the wars with England. Captured by the Scots in 1385, it became royal property in 1445; after abandonment in the eighteenth century, much of its stone was reused in local buildings.
At Lochmaben, a tall broken wall and lower ruined arches stand on a green bank across the water. Pale houses and a reddish church spire appear beyond trees on the right. Their reflections stretch down the calm surface. Bare branches frame both upper corners, while cream cloud and muted green hills suggest the gentle light of early spring.
