Max Kurzweil (1867-1916) was an Austrian painter and printmaker associated with the Vienna Secession movement. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, later becoming a professor there. Kurzweil's work often explored themes of love, melancholy, and the complexities of human relationships. He was known for his symbolist approach and his use of colour to convey emotion. His career was cut short by his suicide in 1916. 'Love' depicts a man and woman seated at a table in a garden setting.
