Lune Estuary follows silver tidal channels across broad sandbanks, while a brick viaduct stands above the warm water and low purple hills under a glowing sky.

Light spreads across the exposed flats in ribbons of apricot and gold, drawing the eye out towards a dark tree-lined shore. The masonry structure occupies the right foreground, its repeated arches casting deep shadows over scrubby vegetation. Above it, mauve clouds and a pale sunlit sky give the distant ridges a softened outline.

At Lune Estuary, the changing course of the tide is part of the character of the view. Anyone who has watched the water withdraw across these broad flats will recognise the long reflective runs, the open horizon and the sturdy railway structure holding its place at the edge of the channel.
