Description
Major Oak fills the frame with twisting limbs and weathered bark, its great crown held over Nottinghamshire woodland by subtle green metal supports below.
Deep fissures and pale patches of lichen give the trunk a rugged, sculptural surface. Thick limbs reach outward in uneven arcs, with slender dark props rising among them to carry their weight. A ring of boulders and a narrow earth path sit below the roots, while smaller trees soften into green shade behind.
Major Oak has long been a destination within Sherwood Forest for people drawn to the scale of an old living tree. The close viewpoint lets visitors and Nottinghamshire residents recognise the low roots, spreading canopy and carefully placed supports encountered on the approach.
