Description
Malham in North Yorkshire is known for its immense limestone cove, where a curved white cliff rises above green pastures, scattered trees and stone walls in the sheltered valley below.
Above the village of Malham, a great curved limestone cliff forms one of the Yorkshire Dales' best-known natural landmarks. A footpath leads towards its base, while steps climb beside the rock face to the limestone pavement across the top of the cove.
Pale cliff walls sweep around the upper valley, broken by dark vertical seams and green ledges. Beneath them, leafy trees gather along the lower slopes, with stone boundaries winding through bright grass. Grey boulders fill the nearest edge. Full foliage and strong greens suggest summer, while clear daylight emphasises the contrast between white rock, shaded trees and the open blue sky.
