Description
Malling Down Nature Reserve follows a pale footpath across a flowered chalk slope, with a red waymarker below the long white scar of the escarpment.
White chalk is exposed in broad angled bands across the hill, while a sinuous track climbs from the foreground into open turf. Fields and wooded folds recede beyond the crest. Cow parsley mingles with scattered yellow and purple flowers beneath a layered bank of summer cloud.
For a visitor, Malling Down Nature Reserve offers the sense of a route rising beyond the town and into the South Downs. Local walkers may recognise the open ground and the turns in the route, where a short climb opens out to far-reaching views.
