Description
Malton in North Yorkshire stands north of the River Derwent, with a market-town setting shown here through green riverside meadows, red-roofed houses and a pale church tower among trees.
The Derwent forms the southern edge of Malton, a market town in North Yorkshire. This river historically marked the boundary between Yorkshire's North and East Ridings, giving the settlement a position beside an important dividing line in the county's geography.
Blue-green water crosses the foreground beside reeds and small white flowers. Beyond a broad meadow, cream houses with warm red roofs gather near a square pale church tower. Mature trees surround the buildings and interrupt the open grass with darker foliage.
