Van Meegeren (1889-1947) was a Dutch painter and art forger, known for his skillful imitations of works by Dutch Masters, particularly Johannes Vermeer. His most famous forgery was 'Christ at Emmaus', which he passed off as a previously unknown Vermeer. The map itself appears to be a collection of materials, possibly related to the provenance or creation of 'Malle Babbe'. The contents are not clearly visible, but the overall impression is of an organised compilation of documents and fragments. The map is bound on the left side, and tied closed with string.
