Description
Trees and their reflections meet across the still water at Marbles, creating a quiet park-like view under a softly clouded sky The view holds the eye on the surrounding place.
A broad tree stands near the centre of the bank, with smaller trees and shrubs extending along the water’s edge. Their reflections form broken shapes across the pale surface of the pond.
Grassy ground and low plants frame the foreground, where a dark rock rests near the right edge. The far bank is low and leafy, leaving a generous strip of sky above the trees. The scene’s calm depends on the close correspondence between branches and their reflections. Marbles offers a gentle waterside setting, and the mirrored tree line gives the artwork its most distinctive feature.
