Description
Mark in Somerset has a rural village setting centred on Holy Cross church, with grazing cattle, low cottages and reflective water giving this scene its open pastoral character.
Mark is a Somerset civil parish whose village church is dedicated to the Holy Cross. The churchyard also contains a listed former market cross, linking the religious centre with an older gathering place in this part of the county's rural landscape.
A broad pool fills the lower half of the view, reflecting clouds and the shrubs along its far bank. Black, white and brown cattle cross a green field behind the water. Low cream houses stretch along the horizon, while a square stone church tower rises at the right among rounded trees. Reeds and white flowers edge the foreground; the lush growth and clear light suggest early summer.
