Description
Masham in North Yorkshire centres on a spacious Georgian market place, with pale houses and a slender church spire rising above leafy trees and bright flowers in the open square.
A market town in North Yorkshire, Masham retains a large Georgian marketplace. Its twice-weekly market brings traders into this central space, preserving a practical connection between the historic town layout and the shops and stalls that continue to serve the surrounding Dales countryside.
Beside a large leafy tree, the church sends its narrow spire high into the sky. Pale houses with slate roofs face an open paved square, with red and white flowers filling low planters. Green hills appear through gaps in the trees beyond the town. The full crowns and generous blooms suggest summer, with clear daylight warming the stone and casting crisp shadows.
