Description
Meall Garbh in Highland Sutherland shows a steep rocky ridge above golden upland grass, with purple distant mountains and glowing pink clouds giving the open hillside a warm autumn evening atmosphere.
Meall Garbh forms one of the outlying tops of Meallan Liath Coire Mhic Dhughaill in Sutherland. Rocky ridges connect it with the intermediate 761 metre top. An approach from Loch Stack crosses Bealach na Fèithe before continuing over the hill towards the more distant main summit.
Angular grey boulders break the gold grass at the lower edge. Across a broad hollow, a steep ridge rises to a small level crown, with dark rock bands crossing its sunlit face. A rounded shoulder sits to the right before successive purple mountain layers. Peach clouds and warm ochre slopes suggest evening light during autumn, when the open grass takes on its richest dry colour.
