Description
White snow traces the long crest of Mickle Fell in County Durham, beyond dark rolling moors and warm grass slopes that make the distant upland ridge feel broad and exposed.
In County Durham, Mickle Fell rises to about 790 metres. The outlook from Knock Fell crosses a wide stretch of moorland towards its extended summit ridge. Seen from this direction, the high ground forms a broad, almost level outline above the intervening slopes.
Pale snow picks out shallow gullies along the distant face, interrupted by blue-grey rock. Closer hills overlap in muted purple and brown, while ochre grasses fill the lower half of the view. Cloud shadows settle across the open basin. A long white cloudbank hangs above the summit, leaving a strip of clear blue sky overhead.
