Mount Battock rises from russet heather and pale granite, its rounded summit giving the open Angus uplands a sturdy, weather-facing presence throughout the year.

Large lichen-marked boulders fill the lower slope, leading to a broken crown of grey rock at the centre. Patches of purple moor run between ochre ground, while blue ranges overlap behind the summit and small areas of white sit on their upper sides at Mount Battock.
