This woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige is part of the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published in 1858. The composition employs a common Ukiyo-e device, using large foreground elements to frame the distant subject. Two prominent pine trees dominate the vertical axis, their trunks and needles creating a natural archway that directs the viewer's gaze toward the snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji in the background.

Below the mountain, the middle ground consists of expansive rice paddies, rendered with fine, repetitive lines to suggest the texture of the young crops. Small figures of travellers walk along a path, providing a sense of scale and human presence within the rural setting. The colour palette is restrained, relying on soft greens, earthy browns, and the characteristic blue of the sky and mountain base. A subtle red gradient appears near the horizon, suggesting the transition of light at dawn or dusk.

Hiroshige was a master of the landscape genre, and this work demonstrates his ability to balance atmospheric perspective with graphic clarity. The print captures a moment of quiet observation along the Tokaido road, the primary route connecting Edo and Kyoto.
