Description
Neist Point Lighthouse on Highland Skye stands above sheer grey cliffs and blue sea, with cream keeper’s buildings and green turf marking the edge of a remote promontory in clear summer light.
On Skye’s western coast, the light at Neist Point first shone in 1909. David Alan Stevenson designed the station, which includes the tower and adjoining keepers’ accommodation. Its position above the sea guides vessels past a rocky headland facing the open waters west of the island.
Neist Point Lighthouse rises in white and ochre beneath a dark glass lantern, beside a long low cream building with evenly spaced windows. Below, immense grey rock faces descend to angular blocks washed by thin white foam. A line of green topped cliffs continues into the distance on the left. Bare turf, blue water and bright clouds suggest a clear day in summer.
