This method involves thinning paint with turpentine to allow it to soak directly into the fibres of the support, creating translucent layers of colour that appear to float upon the surface. In this work, a large, amorphous cloud of soft pink dominates the centre, its edges bleeding into the surrounding pale yellow ground. The composition is sparse, relying on the interaction of these expansive colour fields rather than traditional representational forms.

Frankenthaler introduces subtle linear elements that provide a counterpoint to the fluid, atmospheric wash.
