Description
Nidderdale in North Yorkshire opens beyond rounded grey rock towers, with green pastures, scattered farms and wooded boundaries spread beneath high summer clouds and a distant blue ridge.
Nidderdale’s glacial valley lies within North Yorkshire, with Brimham Rocks offering wide outlooks across its farming countryside. The rocks are formed from millstone grit laid down by ancient rivers. Their resistance to erosion has left the distinctive outcrops standing above surrounding pasture.
Bulbous grey boulders rise close on the right, their rounded layers divided by dark seams. Low shrubs fill the gaps around their bases. Beyond them, green fields form an irregular patchwork dotted with pale farm buildings and rows of trees. Blue hills recede towards the horizon under cream and lilac clouds, giving the summer landscape a considerable sense of depth.
