The composition focuses on a traveller being carried in a kago, a traditional palanquin, by a porter. A second figure, likely a companion or attendant, stands to the right, holding a pipe. The figures are positioned against a simplified background of rolling hills and a solitary pine tree, which provides a sense of place without overwhelming the narrative.

Hokusai employs a clear, linear style typical of his early nineteenth-century output. The figures are rendered with precise outlines, and the colour palette remains restrained, relying on muted greens, ochres, and soft pinks to define the forms.
