This abstract composition by Sophie Taeuber-Arp features intersecting lines and geometric planes in a dynamic arrangement. The interplay of black lines, a red square, and a blue triangle creates a visually stimulating design.
Sophie Taeuber-Arp (1889-1943) was a Swiss artist, sculptor, painter, dancer, and designer, considered one of the most important figures of the Dada movement. Her work often explored abstraction and geometric forms, reflecting the avant-garde spirit of the early 20th century. She was married to the artist Jean Arp, and together they contributed significantly to the development of abstract art. Taeuber-Arp also taught textile design and applied her artistic principles to various crafts. Her work is characterised by its clean lines, balanced compositions, and innovative use of colour and form. 'O. T.(Croisement de droites, plans)' exemplifies Taeuber-Arp's abstract style. The composition features a dynamic arrangement of intersecting lines and geometric planes. Black lines of varying thicknesses crisscross the white background, creating a sense of depth and movement. A red square and a blue triangle provide blocks of colour that contrast with the linear elements. The interplay between the lines and shapes results in a visually stimulating and balanced design, typical of Taeuber-Arp's exploration of abstract forms.
