Description
Ogof Goch opens as a dark cavern beneath warm limestone cliffs, with sunlit grass and broken rock shelves leading towards the broad entrance in the Welsh hills.
Pale vertical rock faces rise above the mouth of the cave, their ledges broken by small tufts of grass and shadowed seams. At ground level, loose boulders gather around the opening, while the slope falls away to quieter blue-grey hills. The cave's deep interior makes a strong contrast with the clear summer sky.
For cavers and walkers in the Brecon Beacons, Ogof Goch is recognised by this sudden change from open hillside to enclosed stone. The wide entrance holds the anticipation of the underground passages beyond, while the limestone escarpment keeps it rooted in the surrounding country.
