Description
Padley Gorge in Derbyshire follows a bright cascading brook through mossy boulders, with tall woodland trees and fern-covered banks opening towards a patch of softly clouded blue sky.
Burbage Brook runs through this steep wooded valley near Nether Padley in the Peak District National Park. The gorge offers walks through a sheltered landscape where flowing water passes between large rocks below tree-covered slopes, close to the settlement of Grindleford.
White cascades spill towards the foreground at Padley Gorge, weaving between rounded rocks coated in green moss. Ferns grow along the damp banks, and tall trunks rise from both sides of the valley. A small tree carries pinkish leaves against the wider green canopy. Dappled sunlight and the first warm foliage tones suggest the approach of autumn.
