This exquisite manuscript leaf originates from a copy of the Panj Ganj (Five Treasures) by the Persian poet Abd al-Rahman Jami. Attributed to the Mughal artist Mushfiq, who was active in the early 17th century, the work demonstrates the high level of technical precision found in Indian courtly book arts of the period. The page contains verses from two of Jami's masnavis: Yusuf va Zulaykha and Subhat al-abrar.

The central text block features elegant Nasta'liq script, arranged in two columns separated by a vertical gold-leaf divider. The calligraphy is framed by marginal annotations written in a diagonal orientation, a common practice in Persian and Mughal manuscript production to maximise space while maintaining aesthetic balance. The margins are decorated with small, finely rendered birds, which provide a sense of movement against the structured geometry of the text blocks. The use of gold leaf throughout the illumination reflects the high status of the original commission, likely intended for a royal or aristocratic library.

Mushfiq's hand is visible in the disciplined flow of the ink and the careful application of pigments. The composition adheres to traditional Islamic manuscript conventions, where the relationship between the written word and the decorative border is carefully calibrated. The inclusion of the birds in the margins adds a layer of naturalistic detail that contrasts with the formalised script.
