Description
Palace of Westminster in central London glows above purple water at sunset, its clock tower and intricate roofline forming a golden silhouette beside the broad Thames.
The riverside home of Parliament was largely rebuilt after the destructive fire of 1834. Charles Barry won the competition for a new Gothic Revival design, with Augustus Pugin contributing decorative detail, while medieval Westminster Hall survived within the expanded parliamentary complex.
Orange light washes the long frontage of the Palace of Westminster, picking out pointed turrets and rows of tall windows. The clock tower rises prominently at the right, balanced by a larger square tower farther left. A bridge cuts across the foreground above mauve reflections. The low sun and layered peach clouds suggest a warm evening, with leafy trees darkening the streets behind.
