Description
Papa Westray Island in Orkney reflects high white clouds across a sheltered loch, with green coastal fields, white cottages and a low stone enclosure below the open blue sea.
In the southern part of Papay, St Tredwell's Loch surrounds a promontory associated with an ancient chapel and a long tradition of pilgrimage. Structures here reach back to the Iron Age, while the loch supports wildfowl and plants adapted to its wet margins.
The elevated view over Papa Westray Island follows a rounded blue loch almost meeting the sea beyond. Green fields divided by stone walls line the right shore, opposite small white houses. A low, irregular enclosure occupies a grassy projection near the front. Tall cream clouds reflect clearly in the still water, suggesting a sunny summer day with little movement on the loch.
