A landscape painting by French Impressionist Armand Guillaumin, *Paysage à Crozant* captures the Creuse River with vibrant colours and broken brushstrokes, showcasing the artist's distinctive style.
Armand Guillaumin (1841-1927) was a French Impressionist painter known for his vibrant colour palette and depictions of the French countryside. Although he was friends with Monet and Pissarro, Guillaumin maintained a distinctive style, often using bolder colours and impasto techniques. He found inspiration in the landscapes around Paris, as well as in the Creuse region of France. *Paysage à Crozant* exemplifies Guillaumin's mature style. The painting presents a view of the Creuse River near the village of Crozant. The composition is divided into three horizontal bands: the foreground with rocky riverbanks and trees, the river itself, and the background with a large hill under a blue sky. Guillaumin uses short, broken brushstrokes to capture the effects of light and atmosphere. The colour scheme is dominated by blues, greens, and purples, with touches of red and orange in the hill and trees. The overall effect is one of serenity and natural beauty.
