Malevich's artistic journey evolved from Impressionism and Fauvism to Cubism and, ultimately, to Suprematism, which he introduced around 1915. 'Peasant', painted between 1928 and 1932, exemplifies Malevich's later style, which saw a return to figurative elements, though still rendered with a degree of abstraction. The painting depicts a figure with an absent face, dressed in a red shirt and yellow trousers, standing against a blue background.
