Description
Peninsula of Kintyre extends through southwestern Argyll between Atlantic water and the Clyde, its long moorland spine falling towards fertile coastal ground, wide bays and low rocky shores.
Long and narrow, this part of Argyll reaches south from the Tarbert isthmus towards the North Channel. Hilly moorland occupies its centre, while lower coastal ground supports farming; Kilbrannan Sound borders the east, with Atlantic waters beyond the western shore.
The Peninsula of Kintyre scene follows a broad curve of coast under orange and mauve evening clouds. Rust coloured intertidal bands stripe the water beside green fields and a cluster of pale cottages. Golden grass, purple heath and a rounded boulder fill the near hillside. Full trees suggest late summer, their dark foliage contrasting with the amber light along the bay.
