Description
Pentire Steps brings a more secluded Cornwall into the home, with its steep cove and descending path giving a coastal view the character of somewhere reached on foot.
A narrow track crosses the sloping grass above the water. The rock on the right breaks into dark vertical clefts, while exposed ledges fall sharply towards a blue-green inlet. Beyond the nearest headland, the sea opens beneath pale clouds that leave the height of the cliff apparent.
Pentire Steps is seen from the South West Coast Path near Engollan. The descent and the enclosed water are kept together, so the cove retains the relationship that makes it recognisable from above. The view will suit someone who values the smaller turns of a coastal walk, where a path reveals a beach before the shore itself is reached.
