Description
Port Mulgrave in North Yorkshire overlooks a coast once used to ship ironstone, with steep green cliffs and a narrow rocky shore following the white surf into the distance.
The port facilities at Port Mulgrave served nearby ironstone extraction on the North Yorkshire coast. Its small settlement stands above the shore, linking the cliff landscape with the industrial history of this stretch of coastline and the mineral workings behind it.
From a high grassy slope, the view follows a line of steep cliffs towards a low distant headland. Grey beach and scattered rocks lie below, edged by broad white bands of surf. Green scrub forms deep patterns across the near hillside, and fields reach the cliff tops beyond. The strong foliage and clear blue sky suggest summer in bright coastal light.
