Description
Portnacroish overlooks Loch Laich in Argyll, where Castle Stalker stands on a tidal islet and coastal water opens towards Loch Linnhe beneath the mountains of Appin.
On the shore opposite Castle Stalker, Portnacroish faces the small inlet of Loch Laich. The loch branches from Loch Linnhe, and its island tower house is among western Scotland's well preserved medieval strongholds, within the Lynn of Lorn National Scenic Area.
A golden stone castle rises from a low green islet, its reflection reaching into still blue water. Tidal rocks and shallow channels spread across the foreground, while white houses line the far shore below forested slopes. Snow covers the upper mountains, contrasting with mauve lower ground and green banks. This combination suggests spring, with soft light catching the castle beneath pale cloud banks.
