Description
At the surf line, Tamatori draws the pearl into the wound beneath her breast while gripping the lifeline as the dragon recoils and the boat crew pulls.
The diver must keep the jewel from the sea powers that follow her upward. She conceals it within her own body, ties herself to the returning line and reaches for the boat. The image stops before death, leaving the cost of the act tied to the promise made for her son.
This contemporary interpretation compresses the final struggle into one resolute face, one red rope and one pale pearl against black water. The close view gives the sacrifice its full weight without turning the moment into spectacle. It is the fourth print in the four-scene story, resolving the descent and pursuit through a chosen act of return.
