Pygmalion and Galatea - Jean-Léon Gérôme

A classic depiction of the mythological sculptor Pygmalion embracing his statue, Galatea, as she transforms into a living woman.

Jean-Léon Gérôme, a prominent figure of the French Academic tradition, painted this work towards the end of the nineteenth century.
