Description
Radnor Forest is led by a dark rocky escarpment above patterned fields, where sunlit grass and a high blue sky give the border hills a broad, open presence.
From the foreground slope, heather-coloured shrubs and pale boulders lead towards Radnor Forest's craggy ridge. Its shadowed rock face falls across slanting green ground, while hedged fields make small geometric blocks in the valley below. Long, low hills sit behind the ridge under a bank of cream cloud.
Anyone travelling through the Welsh border country may know how quickly the roads leave enclosed fields for exposed high ground. Radnor Forest holds both views together: the carefully divided valley recedes beneath rougher slopes, ending at the broken edge of the escarpment.
