Description
Rannoch Station in Perthshire sits below russet moor and forest beside distant blue water, with small railway buildings beneath layered purple mountains on a bright late summer afternoon.
Rannoch Station serves the surrounding moorland district on the West Highland Line. It opened to passengers on 7 August 1894, during the railway’s original development through the western Highlands. The station stands at the end of the B846, linking this remote part of Perthshire with the wider railway network.
Two tracks pass low timber buildings and a lattice sided footbridge beneath a belt of dark conifers. Russet grass and purple heather cover the near slope, beyond which blue water stretches across the open moor. Successive purple mountain shoulders fill the horizon beneath broad white clouds. Dry ground and warm colours suggest late summer afternoon light across the upland station.
