Description
Reef is framed by a weathered stone tower above grass-topped rocks, with clear blue water and a low island ridge giving this Eilean Siar scene a watchful coastal character.
A broken parapet rises unevenly above the tower's narrow window openings, its sunlit masonry set against a broad blue sky streaked with cream cloud. Below, angular grey boulders interrupt the green slope and lead down to dark rock shelves at the waterline. A pale band of sea separates the foreground headland from the rounded land across the channel.
For a visitor crossing this part of Eilean Siar, Reef's meeting of ruin, shore and open water can recall the feeling of arriving at an exposed western edge. Residents may recognise the quick change from turf to stone and the far land seen beyond the tide, a view shaped by the islands' close connection to the sea.
