Description
Retford opens its town centre into a spacious Nottinghamshire panorama, with a tall church above leafy roofs giving a familiar square a wider and warmly welcoming setting.
A pale obelisk stands beside a conifer within low planted beds. Across the paving, cream sash windows repeat above blue grey shop bays and a white corner frontage. Farther back, a needle spire rises from a long Gothic nave, while chimney stacks punctuate the closely grouped red roofs.
Viewed from above, Retford reveals the way its open square gathers the surrounding streets. The near tree crowns soften the dense architecture, and fields beyond the church keep the wider county within sight. A former resident can enjoy following those connections from a new angle, recognising the town through both its small window details and the distant point that rises above them.
