Description
Rhinns of Kells in Galloway carries snow above a wooded village valley, with a rocky foreground cairn, rust-coloured ferns and pale fields beneath the orange glow of a winter sunset.
The easternmost of Galloway's three parallel hill ranges, this ridge rises within the Southern Uplands of Dumfries and Galloway. The Dungeon Hills and Range of the Awful Hand lie farther west, together forming a substantial area of upland within Galloway Forest Park.
Across the Rhinns of Kells, snowy crests glow beneath a peach-orange sky. Dark conifer belts separate the higher ground from a village gathered around a church spire. Large pale buildings stand beyond the houses, among thin uprights and field walls. Angular grey stones form a cairn in the nearest snow and rusty ferns, giving the valley a crisp winter-evening atmosphere.
