Description
River Barle in Somerset runs through wooded Exmoor valleys, with old stone crossings marking its course and five broad bridge arches seen here above blue water edged by bright summer grass.
Rising on Exmoor's central moorlands, River Barle passes Landacre Bridge, Tarr Steps and Dulverton before joining the Exe near Exebridge. Its wildlife includes salmon, otters and dippers, and the river is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its ecological value.
Five stone arches cross the water on a slight diagonal, their pale inner faces catching the light. Small white rapids break the darker blue current beneath the bridge. A low rough wall follows the near grassy bank, while dense leafy trees rise on the opposite side. Full foliage suggests summer under clear sky and soft cream clouds.
