Description
River Test reflects Hampshire's leafy banks in green and gold near Mottisfont, where overhanging branches and still-looking water reveal the sheltered character of this celebrated chalk stream.
Hampshire's River Test is a chalk stream known for exceptionally rich lowland flora and fauna. Around Mottisfont, the National Trust estate provides access to parts of a river whose banks are largely private, bringing visitors close to this distinctive freshwater habitat.
Heavy branches stretch across the upper left, their leaves catching yellow light above the river. The channel narrows between dense trees towards a sunlit opening, with tall poplars marking the distance. Green reflections mingle with cream patches of sky on the surface. Lush banks and full foliage suggest a warm summer afternoon, when the shade overhead makes the water feel particularly secluded.
