Description
River Torridge flows beneath a many-arched stone bridge, where a tall church tower and still gold-tinted reflections give the riverside scene its measured, historic presence.
A broad stone bridge crosses the water on four high arches, its ashlar blocks catching warm light above the dark river. Behind it, a large Gothic church has pointed windows, a square tower and four small corner pinnacles. White houses cluster beside the church, while reeds and leafy branches frame the bank and the building shapes ripple in the current.
The River Torridge is a route through north Devon as much as a feature in the view, and this scene brings its riverbank architecture into focus. Visitors may recognise the pleasure of crossing or pausing by the water, while residents can read the bridge and church as familiar markers of the town. River Torridge remains linked here by stone arches, river reflections and the rising tower.
