Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840), a Belgian-French painter and botanist, was celebrated for his watercolours of roses, lilies, and other flowers at the Château de Malmaison, home of Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais. He was nicknamed 'the Raphael of flowers' and gained international recognition for his precise and aesthetically pleasing botanical illustrations.
