Description
Royal Deeside follows the River Dee inland through Aberdeenshire, where fertile valley floors, wooded hills and Balmoral's royal connections give the landscape its particular place in Scottish history.
The district stretches inland from Aberdeen along the Dee, with settlements including Banchory, Ballater and Braemar. Balmoral's purchase by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1852 established the royal association reflected in the area's name, linking the valley with the family's Scottish residence.
Royal Deeside appears as a broad patchwork of green and yellow fields divided by lines of trees. A silver blue river bends through the right side beneath dark wooded slopes. Red orange shrubs, pale rock slabs and narrow conifers fill the foreground. Bright cloud light illuminates the valley floor, while the warm foliage suggests the beginning of autumn.
