Rubha Reidh in Highland Wester Ross shines white and gold above dark blue sea, with low keeper buildings and green rocky slopes beneath a spacious sky of bright summer clouds.
Rubha Reidh marks a prominent Ross shire headland at the entrance to Loch Ewe near Gairloch. David Alan Stevenson engineered the lighthouse, whose light first shone on 15 January 1912. Its fog signal operated from the same year until 1980, and the station became automated in 1986.
A tall white tower with gold trim rises above flat roofed keeper buildings and a low surrounding wall. Its black lantern stands out against the sea, with small rocky islets below and distant coastal hills along the horizon. Green grass and pale grey slabs occupy the foreground. Strong sunlight and rounded white clouds suggest a clear summer afternoon on the exposed headland.
