Description
Runcorn in Cheshire catches the evening light across a broad river, with a green steel arch bridge, a distant church spire and gold reflections below softly shaded clouds over the water.
The Silver Jubilee Bridge connects this Mersey-side town with Widnes, replacing an earlier transporter crossing when it opened in 1961. Its great steel arch became a local landmark, and the bridge received its present name in 1977 to mark Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee.
At Runcorn, the bridge sweeps from the right edge towards tree-lined buildings on the far bank. Thin vertical hangers descend from its curved green arch to the roadway. A church spire rises to the left, while low sun glows behind the piers. Orange cloud edges and long reflections suggest a quiet late summer evening beside the river.
