Description
Salen in Highland Ardnamurchan overlooks pale blue tidal water from leafy cottage gardens, with shore rocks and purple heather below dark conifers under a soft, cloud filled summer sky.
Salen stands beside an inlet of Loch Sunart on the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Its protected bay has served as an anchorage for centuries, and a stone pier supported nineteenth century steamer traffic. Oak woods surround the village, which lies on the route west towards Ardnamurchan Point.
Pale houses with grey and red roofs sit among leafy gardens across the inlet. A dark timber shed stands near the shore below a rocky face crowned by tall conifers. Exposed seaweed and pale sand mark the low water edge. In front, grey stones interrupt green grass and purple heather, with full foliage and soft blue reflections suggesting a sheltered summer afternoon.
