Description
Salum in northeastern Tiree, Argyll, frames turquoise water with tall green grasses and a cream crescent of sand, an open island shore made bright by summer light.
Opposite Ruaig on Tiree's north coast, Salum stands where the island becomes particularly narrow. Rocky outcrops help shelter its shallow bay, while machair dunes back the beach and neighbouring land supports crofting and farming, linking coastal habitats with the island's working countryside.
A sweep of cream sand curves around bright turquoise water. Tall dune grasses fill the foreground, parting around a pale sandy opening, while low black rocks interrupt the far shoreline. One white cottage with an orange roof stands beyond the bay. Brilliant clouds, fresh greens and small breaking waves suggest a breezy summer day on this low, open coast.
