Description
Scalasaig is Colonsay's east coast gateway in Argyll, a small island settlement whose harbour connects the Hebrides with the mainland beneath low hills of rock and heath.
Colonsay's main settlement and only port sits on the island's eastern side. Scalasaig is consequently the arrival point for ferry visitors, as well as a focus for island services, with the parish church, shop and village hall gathered in the surrounding settlement.
Blue water fills the lower half of the scene, edged by a broken grey shoreline. A few pale houses stand beneath rounded hills mottled with exposed stone and purple heath. The low, spreading land rises gently behind the buildings, while large white clouds leave generous stretches of clear sky. The purplish slopes and sunny conditions suggest late summer on the island.
