Description
Schiehallion in Perthshire mirrors its pointed blue summit across still water, with leafy shore trees and pale boulders beneath small white clouds on a clear summer afternoon.
Schiehallion stands within the Loch Rannoch and Glen Lyon National Scenic Area. Its distinctive summit includes shattered quartzite, while limestone influences habitats on the eastern slopes. The mountain also played a part in eighteenth century science, when Nevil Maskelyne used its regular form in an experiment to estimate Earth’s density.
A pointed blue mountain rises beyond dark green shoulders and calm reflective water. Small leafy trees stand at the near margin beside large pale boulders, their trunks mirrored in the shallows. The summit forms a clear inverted triangle below a long wooded shoreline. White clouds and fully green leaves suggest a mild summer afternoon with little movement across the loch.
