Description
A striking abstract still life by Danish modernist Vilhelm Lundstrøm, featuring bold geometric forms and a restrained yet vibrant colour palette. This print brings a touch of modernist elegance to any space.
Vilhelm Lundstrøm (1893-1950) was a pivotal figure in Danish modernism, known for his contributions to Constructivism and his unique approach to still life painting. This untitled work exemplifies Lundstrøm's exploration of geometric forms and simplified objects, rendered with a distinctive palette and composition. The artwork presents a collection of everyday objects—a pitcher, blocks, and geometric shapes—arranged in a deliberate, almost architectural manner. The colour palette is restrained yet striking, featuring bold reds, greens, yellows, and blacks contrasted against a background of soft greys and whites. Lundstrøm's work reflects the broader European avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, particularly Constructivism's emphasis on abstraction and functional design. His still lifes are not merely representations of objects but rather studies in form, colour, and spatial relationships. This print offers a glimpse into Lundstrøm's innovative vision, making it a compelling addition to any collection. Its clean lines and balanced composition make it a versatile piece, suitable for adding a touch of modernist elegance to any room. The interplay of bold colours and subtle textures creates a visually engaging experience, perfect for both contemporary and classic interiors.

Artist Biography
Vilhelm Lundstrøm
Lundstrøm's Cubist period, though relatively brief, produced some of his most iconic works. His still lifes, featuring everyday objects like fruit bowls and bottles, are imbued with a sense of understated elegance. Stripping away extraneous detail, he reduced forms to their essential geometric components, creating a harmonious balance between abstraction and representation. Though he later moved away from Cubism, its influence remained evident in his simplified forms and refined compositions.
Despite his relatively short life – Lundstrøm died in 1950 – his impact on Danish art is undeniable. He paved the way for future generations of abstract artists, demonstrating the power of simplification and the beauty of subtle colour harmonies. Owning a Lundstrøm print is not just about acquiring a piece of art; it's about embracing a legacy of quiet innovation and timeless Scandinavian design.
